Gianni Laneri (b. 1990) is a Chilean-German artist based in Berlin. His kinetic sculptures and installations propose future ecologies: speculative creatures and lost environments that move, respond to visitors and slowly change in their presence. Between memory and imagination, the works take what has been lost, a melting glacier or a vanished painting, as the starting point for imagining forms of life still to come.
Lost & Fauna, currently in development, is a kinetic ecosystem in which moths, feathers and spined shells come alive among lost paintings, while a self-playing piano slowly forgets its melody. It will be shown in Berlin in 2027.
Laneri trained at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and the Ciudad Abierta of Ritoque, an experimental community where poetry and making intersect, and completed an MA at the Universität der Künste Berlin. Alongside his own practice, he works in art production for artists and galleries.
